October 21, 2007
BP

The 100 Gold Hinsdale Falcons defeated the Elmhurst Eagles 18 – 0 to conclude the regular season with a 5 – 3 record while securing a home playoff game next week. This marked the Falcons’ third shutout victory in a row while outscoring their opponents 74 – 0. The Falcons didn’t waste any time, scoring their first touchdown on a nifty 54 yard run by runningback Sam MacKenzie on the games’ 3rd play behind the blocking of quarterback Kevin Hale, fullback Ben Stefani, tight end Matthew Muellner, right tackle Alex Jeannin and left guard Rorey Seligman. This gave Hinsdale an early 6 – 0 lead.

The Falcons defense dominated the Elmhurst offense all day as they held them to 48 yards passing and only 14 rushing. Linebackers Charlie Emmons (3 tackles, 1 interception returned for 32 yards), Michael O’Doherty (3 tackles) and James Benak (4 tackles, 1 for a 5 yard loss) totally crushed the Elmhurst rushing attack. The Falcons’ harassing defensive line spearheaded by defensive tackles Jack Regan (2 tackles and 1 sack for negative 8 yards), Jack Paulson, Matthew Allen (3 tackles) and Jack Dolan combined with defensive ends Trevor Paul (3 tackles and 1 sack for negative 8 yards) and Matthew Muellner (1 sack for minus 6 yards) to clip the wings of the Eagles’ passing attack. The Hinsdale offense scored their second touchdown with seconds left on the clock before halftime thanks to a strong 9 yard run by fullback Charlie Emmons, with the key block being delivered by tight end Danny Bergdoll, increasing the Falcons’ lead to 12-0 at halftime.

Elmhurst received the second half kickoff but their offense was stopped immediately without attaining a first down because of cornerback Seligman’s (4 tackles and 1 pass deflected) outstanding pass coverage. Hinsdale’s powerful offense added another MacKenzie touchdown run of 8 yards to cement the game’s final score at 18 – 0. The Falcons rushing attack was truly special on this day as it amassed 285 yards on 40 carries. The blocking of right guard O’Doherty, tight end Peter Deering, left tackle Michael Lord and center Patrick Drew plowed the field for MacKenzie 10 – 91 yards, 2 touchdowns, Stefani 6 – 46, Paul 10 – 78, Emmons 8 – 51 yards, 1 touchdown and Andrew Davis 3 – 13 yards.
