The Hinsdale Falcons 100 pound gold team defeated the hard hitting Glendale Heights Spartans, 15-0 in a first round home playoff game on Sunday October 28 The Falcons recorded their fourth straight shutout victory while improving their record to 6-3, and moving on to the second round of the playoffs.

Hinsdale’s powerful offense wasted no time scoring as running back Trevor Paul (8 rushes for 112 yards), rumbled 55 yards for a touchdown on the games’ first play from scrimmage. This spectacular run was keyed by the blocking of quarterback Kevin Hale, tight end Danny Bergdoll, left tackle Michael Lord, left guard Rorey Seligman and center Patrick Drew. Running back Charlie Emmons slammed in the extra point to give Hinsdale a 7 – 0 lead.

The Hinsdale defense came out breathing fire and delivered some of their most devastating tackles of the season as linebacker Michael O’Doherty (4 tackles, 1 fumble caused), defensive tackle Jack Paulson (4 tackles, 1 for negative yardage and one fumble caused), linebackers Emmons (4 tackles) and James Benak (4 tackles, one for negative 7 yards and one fumble caused) just overwhelmed the Spartan offense in the first half, while free safety Sam MacKenzie recovered 2 Spartan fumbles.

Hinsdale then scored their second touchdown as Emmons (9 rushes for 57 yards) ran 36 yards for the score behind the blocking of O’Doherty, right tackle Alex Jeannin and fullback Andrew Davis. The Falcons added 2 points as Hale threw a strike to tight end Matthew Muellner for the conversion, making the score 15-0.

The Spartans did mount a long, sustained fourth quarter drive before defensive end Muellner (2 deflected passes), defensive tackle Jack Regan (3 tackles), nose guards Matthew Allen (3 tackles) and Jack Dolan (3 tackles) helped stall the Spartan offense. However, it was cornerback Ben Stefani’s 2 second half pass deflections and devastating tackle that completely took the wind out of the Glendale Heights’ sails. Stefani also had 7 rushes for 50 yards in the contest.
