Hinsdale received the opening kickoff and
methodically went on a 12 play touchdown drive. The highlight of
the drive was a blazing 32 yard run by fullback Ben Stefani
behind the fantastic blocking of right tackle Alex Jeannin,
right guard Michael O'Doherty, center Patrick Drew, and left
guard Rorey Seligmann. Stefani ( 8 carries, 58 yards), capped
the drive with a determined 3 yard touchdown run.
Perennial power Hanover Park answered Hinsdale's strike by
quickly scoring a touchdown of their own to tie the game at 6-6.
However, Hinsdale would not be denied on this day and proceeded
to dissect Hanover Park's defense with a 9 play drive that ended
with fullback Charlie Emmons exploding behind left tackle
Michael Lord, fullback Andrew Davis, and tight ends Danny
Bergdoll and Peter Deering for a 24 yard go ahead touchdown run.
Quarterback Kevin Hale then rolled out to his right and threw a
strike to running back Trevor Paul who made a leaping grab for
the 2 point conversion and a 14-6 Hinsdale lead at halftime.
In the 2nd half, Hinsdale's defense took over the game,
completely shutting down Hanover's offense. Defensive tackles
Jack Paulson (6 tackles, two for loss), Jack Regan (6 tackles,
one for loss), and nose tackles Jack Dolan and Matthew Allen (3
tackles) were constantly in Hanover's backfield while defensive
ends Paul (4 tackles), Matthew Muellner (2 tackles, one for
loss), and Jeannin (2 tackles, one for loss), ensured that
Hanover's running backs would not get to the outside. Adding to
the defensive domination were free safety Sam MacKenzie (4
tackles) and linebackers James Benak (6 tackles), O'Doherty (6
Tackles) and Emmons (6 tackles).
Hinsdale totaled 255 yards of offense, including 26 yards
passing by Hale, while limiting Hanover Park to less than 100
yards for the game.
On Saturday, November 10, the Hinsdale 100 Gold football team
was defeated by the Bloomingdale Bears in the AFC Championship
Super Bowl game. Congratulations to Hinsdale's coaching staff
including head coach Dave Marco and assistant coaches Barney
O'Doherty, Tim MacKenzie and Jim Benak for an outstanding
season. Congratulations to all of the 100 Gold team members,
including Danny Frasca who returned from injury to play in the
Super Bowl game, and to Andrew Stockmal, who was injured and
could not play.
