YOUTH FOOTBALL -- The Hinsdale Falcons 100-pound Gold team faced
the Bloomingdale Bears in the first game of the season Sunday
and walked away with a 27-6 victory.
Quarterback Michael Sessa (4-for-7 passing for 70 yards) got the
offensive movement started quickly with the assistance of Colin
Goss, Zak Marinko and Brad Huth. Sessa threw the ball 52 yards
to Luke Soenen for the first touchdown.
Jake Heiser fueled the Falcons' defense, stopping sweeps with
the help of Chris Chute and Matt Stockmal. Austin Schwartz
blocked the Bears' punt and recovered the ball, setting up
Christian Davis for a 17-yard run to the 1-yard line. Goss
punched the ball into the end zone and Will Hughes caught the
two-point conversion pass, securing a 14-0 lead going into
halftime.
The Falcons' defense owned the second half, with Soenen, Mikey
Weingartner and Aaron Vander Linde allowing Huth (8 tackles,
sack, fumble recovery) to intercept the Bears for a 40-yard
touchdown. Kickoff team contributors Schwartz, Peter Nikho, and
Ellis Kritzer diminished the Bears' return up front. Jack
Kavanagh forced a loose ball while Geno Reichert (2 tackles,
sack) and Brett Dougherty (3 tackles) forced a turnover on
downs.
Doug Kramer led the offensive line with multiple run and pass
blocks, supported by Ryan Cohen. Andrew Bitautas and Matt
Moreton came in on defense forcing yet another turnover on
downs. Goss (7 tackles) and Marinko (3 tackles) rallied the
defense in the final minutes. Soenen, protected by Cole Zeno,
capped off the game with an interception, returning the ball 57
yards for the final touchdown.
Hinsdale Falcons 115-pound Silver Red 26, West Chicago Wildcats
8: A big second half lifted the Falcons to the season-opening
victory.
The Falcons trailed 8-7 at halftime, despite Jack Kelly scoring
on a 5-yard touchdown run, set up by Matt Bradley forcing a
turnover. John Bomba ran in the point-after attempt.
The Falcons wore down the Wildcats defense in the second half
with several strong runs by Johnny Campbell and Kelly. Hinsdale
received rushing touchdowns from Bomba (4 yards), Kelly (25
yards) and Campbell (50 yards) to pull away.
Hinsdale's defense also came up big, led by Matt Bradley, Eddie
Krillenberger and Griffin Gartner. Center Sean Neveril suffered
a sprained foot when he made a key recovery of an attempted
onside kick by West Chicago.
Hinsdale Falcons 130 Silver Red 19, Downers Grove 19: Hinsdale
quarterback Jake Sherlock scored a pair of touchdowns on long
runs, keyed by strong offensive line play. Running back Jake
Sprong also scored a touchdown for the Falcons.
The Falcons received key defensive performances from Nick
Johanson and Alec Edstrom (interception each) and Sherlock
(fumble recovery), while linebackers Christian Musil, Ryan Frank
and Sprong, defensive lineman Ethan Chester and safety Brian
LaManna each made numerous key tackles. The defense held tough
in overtime on a goal-line stand with Robert McGivney stuffing
Downers Grove on a running play with help from his teammates.
