•Hinsdale Falcons 115 Gold 13, Bloomindgale Bears 0: The Falcons
opened their season in convincing fashion with a 13-0 win over a
tough Bloomingdale team.
Hinsdale scored on its second possession of the game. The
punishing 12-play drive was led by the offensive line of Matt
Allen, Jimmy Thompson, Nick Jung, K.J. Maloney and Jay Hayes.
The drive was capped off by an 8-yard TD pass from quarterback
Thomas Ives to running back Andrew Davis. The Bears mounted a
drive at the end of the half, but the Falcons held at their
4-yard line helped by key tackles from Maloney and Charles
Heimke.
The Falcons took command on their first possession of the second
half when halfback Mark Dykstra burst up the middle for a
35-yard TD run. Dykstra led a balanced Hinsdale attack with 65
yards rushing. Ryan Doney pounded in the extra point to finish
the scoring.
The Hinsdale defense then took over the game. Big tackles by
Phillip Janowiak and Alex Herbst and an interception by Jordan
Bradshaw helped to preserve the shutout.
•Hinsdale Falcons 100 Silver 16, Wheaton Rams White 12: The
Falcons achieved their first victory of the season Saturday to
improve their record to 1-1.
The game started with an impressive offensive drive by the
Falcons, led by successive running gains from Alex Wallace and
Eli Blacketor. Wallace scored on a handoff from quarterback
Michael Claussen, and a pass from Claussen to Nick O'Grady for
the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.
A strong defensive line led by Nick Martucci, Frankie Rayis, and
Evan Martucci, a fumble recovery by Alex Brown and an
interception by Wallace kept the Falcons ahead 8-6 at the half.
Not to be defeated by a third-quarter Rams score, the Falcons
answered immediately with a 70-yard kickoff return by Wallace
for a touchdown. At least four Wheaton players had a chance at
Wallace but were unable to run him down. Claussen passed to Nick
Bjorson for the two-point conversion.
Strong defensive pressure led by Matt Bjorson and Chris Heneghan,
and good pass coverage by Evan Moran and Nick O'Grady allowed
the Falcons to hold off the Rams' final drive.
